Go west to D.D.O.’s Nolah for Cajun classics and creativity “Lesley Chesterman
Their goal was to open an unpretentious eatery featuring a comfort-food menu based primarily on the cuisine of New Orleans. Mission accomplished, I’d say, after a successful meal enjoyed there on a recent Tuesday, a night when many a downtown restaurant probably sits half empty while at Nolah, most every seat was taken. West Island residents should certainly add this charming restaurant to their go-to list.
Enjoyable, as always
Once again I had the opportunity to taste the exquisite cuisine at BISTRO NOLAH. If you want a fabulous meal in an extraordinary atmosphere, you must try BISTRO NOLAH. Please tell Richard or Chris that Ken sent you and you want to try the “Ken Sampler” which is a unique combination of three (3) tasteful dishes. You will enjoy a portion of Deep South Grits, Home Made Baked Macaroni and a healthy serving of BISTRO NOLAH’s famous Jambalaya……all deliciously prepared and presented in a beautiful New Orleans Soft Jazz setting. But, don’t take my word for it….for a touch of New Orleans in the far north, go visit BISTRO NOLAH and enjoy a wonderful evening of fine dining.
Evening With Friends at the Bistro
I’ve been dying to try Bistro Nolah for several months (over a year in fact) and finally got around to doing so. Well, it was WELL worth the wait. The meal was fantastic!!! I went with 3 friends and all 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed the meal and overall experience. From the initial greeting and being made to feel at home, right down to our final exit.
The appetizers were absolutely delicious and a great start to the meal (see pictures), the gumbo was HOT and awesome. The main course was beyond expectation!!! Personally, my Shrimp Creole could not have been better. I had a small taste of the other 3 dishes and they were right up there with my dish…and the wine was a perfect pairing to the meal. ..oh, and let me not forget to mention that our server’s level or service was second-to-none!!! She was there when we needed her, without ever feeling like she was “there”!! Although, full, we still had to order dessert, The Dessert Trio…and WOW!!! That’s all I can say.
So, in wrapping this up I have to say that I would recommend Bistro Nolah to EVERYONE who enjoys food. There’s something for everyone and you won’t be disappointed. I’ve waited years for a REALLY great Cajun-style restaurant to open, and now I’ve found my fix. I will return over and over and constantly recommend this space. In fact, 7 people have attended since my visit (that I know of) and nothing but rave reviews….(especially for the Braised Short-Ribs, which I’ve yet to sample).
Good job Bistro Nolah….worth every dollar!!!
For me the Gumbo
I brought to Bistro Nolah a 10 person group for a birthday lunch… and we all were positively impressed first by the very friendly service – as they rearranged for us the 10-persons-table from inside to outside (as the weather was great, suddenly!), without even thinking of complaining…
Than, from the beginning to the end – all of us were happy with the different meals we ordered. I had the Gumbo – which is the best I ever had!!! Expect it to be spicy – but the best hot spiced Gumbo ever! The scalops in the salad were fantastic! The entry salads were big enough and very tasty. The surprise was the dessert – just: if you also have the Jack-Daniels-banana-bread, perhaps you should think of getting you someone else to drive you home!
Thank you for the perfect ambience. We will surely return and bring some more guests!
This restaurant knows what they are doing! My husband and I rarely go out to eat mainly because we both enjoy good food so much and have faced so much disappointment in the past at other restaurants we hardly bother anymore. But when we first moved to the area a client of mine (with just as much experience in the kitchen as us) told us we HAVE to try it so we did. We have 3 small children and hardly get a chance to go out to eat but when we do we use our night out to enjoy the flavours at Bistro Nolah. We have almost completed the trials of everything on the menu and every single dish is just so delicious!
The Mississippi Mud Pie was just euphoric, the scallops last night were the best I’ve ever eaten, the crap cakes are additive, gritts…. just perfect, fried oysters were like so good that even if you don’t like oysters (like me) you will love it, my husband tried their signature gumbo with sausage and he loved every bite. I could go on and on about how delicious everything was but you will need to try it yourself and I promise they won’t disappoint you.
The ambiance is so quaint and peaceful, the wine list is really well put together and if you are comfortable with it you can ask your wine to be perfectly paired with your meal and the wine that was chosen for us last night was truly complimentary to our meal. We were educated a bit on wines from the manager and discovered they hold wine pairings at the restaurant, I would be interested in going.
If you like good quality food perfectly cooked to taste and want to have a pleasant meal you must try it. The prices are very reasonable, cost us $125 with a glass of wine each, appetizers, coffee and dessert, tip and taxes included and we honestly were stuffed! The restaurant is not very big but it can be a good spot for families to dine as well, the only thing is I don’t think my kids were appreciate the spice and menu choices as much as we do but if your kids like a bit of spice or seafood then they will be fine. It definitely has a romantic ambiance so perfect for date nights!
Eaten here multiple times and have found the choices different from your regular fare. The dishes are both to taste and vision exquisite. The service and ambiance are excellent. Definitely a taste experience
